Catching up with Leaders of Tomorrow

March 28, 2017

Meet Kyla, a past Leaders of Tomorrow recipient and volunteer extraordinaire! She’s been involved in the St. Albert community for quite some time now.

As the deadline for nominations for the Mayor’s Annual Celebration of Volunteers is fast approaching we wanted to catch up with Kyla to see what receiving a Leaders of Tomorrow Award meant to her (spoiler she actually got it twice!).

Kyla had this to say:

“Hi, my name is Kyla and I received the Leaders of Tomorrow award in both the individual and group categories in 2005 and 2006 respectively. I have always enjoyed volunteering and was not expecting to be recognized within the community for my contributions. In 2006, I was a part of the St. Albert Youth Council, who won the group award for the Leaders of Tomorrow. I enjoyed being a part of such a great team! My passion for volunteering has led me to become the Chair of the Board at the St. Albert Community Information and Volunteer Center (CIVC); and it is always the highlight of my year to see the recognition of volunteers within the community of St. Albert at the annual volunteer awards banquet.

Currently, I am a grade two teacher with Edmonton Catholic Schools. Furthermore, I volunteer with organizations such as Make-A-Wish Edmonton and the Ronald McDonald House during their special events. Lastly, I have also become very involved with coordinating and supporting organized basketball in the greater Edmonton area.”

Do you know a youth who’s passionate about volunteering and their community? Nominate them now for a Leaders of Tomorrow Award!

Deadline for nominations has been extended to April 10, 2017.
