National Waste Reduction Week

October 19, 2010

During National Waste Reduction Week, we would like to encourage everyone to think about the ways in which they purchase goods, dispose of their unwanted items and the impact it has on our environment. Curbside recycling and recycle depot drop-off are not the only methods of recycling and waste reduction available for residents of St. Albert! Plan ahead and look for items with little or no packaging when you are making new purchases. Consider shopping at second hand or consignment stores to find goods that will suit your needs.

The “City of St. Albert website”:http://www.stalbert.ca/refuse-recycling has general and specific information about refuse collection, recycling options and disposal of household hazardous waste.

Donating those items that are still useful but no longer wanted is a great way to keep them out of the landfills! The Telus Yellow Pages for St. Albert, Morinville, Namao, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Area has a great section on pages 4 to 13 that can help you to responsibly discard over 400 items. At CIVC, we have contact information for several organizations that accept various items for redistribution and reuse.

If everyone makes a small contribution to waste reduction and minimization, together we can help ensure the sustainability of a healthy, natural environment in the future.
