How is the Volunteer Citizen of the Year Chosen?
March 15, 2010
All nominations for the St. Albert Volunteer Citizen of the Year Awards are given to a selection committee, comprised of volunteers from this community.
First committee members read all the nomination forms and tally all the facts about each nominee. Then they score them on a grid according to a predetermined point system, to decide how each individual’s volunteer commitment makes an impact on the community at large.
Difficult though this process can be, the committee members must be unanimous in deciding who will be named Citizen of the Year. The same process is used to choose the Volunteer Leader of Tomorrow winners.
The adult volunteer with the most points will be declared the Volunteer Citizen of the Year. However, it is possible to name two people as Volunteer Citizens of the Year. The youths with the most points will be named Volunteer Leaders of Tomorrow.
All volunteer nominees are given certificates to thank them for their contribution. The five finalists must be present at the Volunteer of the Year ceremony.
