Mayor Proclaims National Volunteer Week

Together with a small gathering by the Volunteers’ Rest on the banks of the Sturgeon River, Mayor Nolan Crouse proclaimed National Volunteer Week in St. Albert and presented Glynis Thomas, Executive Director of CIVC with a framed certificate commerating the event.

The Mayor explained that nationally, approximately 1/3 of Canadians volunteer in some capacity. In comparison, he said, close to 80 per cent of St. Albert’s population are volunteers.
St. Albert residents volunteer to help the young and the old and the disadvantaged and help in hundreds of different ways with the city’s many recreation and sports groups, he said.
The Mayor also named Margaret Plain as St. Albert’s Volunteer Citizen of the Decade. Presently Plain is chair of the St. Albert 150th Anniversary Rendezvous Celebration as well as president of the St. Albert Botanic Park Society.
